After bumming around for a week in Singapore, it was time to head off to Bangkok for shopping! Checked in at T2 and headed to T3 to use the Krisflyer Gold lounge instead of the horrible SATS lounge in T2.

Aircraft today was a “STAR ALLIANCE” liveried B773, 9V-SYE (One of the 5 773s in SQ’s fleet without AVOD). Pushback was on time but there was a queue for takeoff, which caused a slight delay, but we still arrived on time. Seems like SQ has stopped giving out menus in Y for the shorter regional hops.

Arrived at the horrible BKK airport on time. Cleared immigration in 10 mins, which was fast compared to my last trip there. Instead of heading to the same immigration like everyone else, walk slightly further to the central section. There are less people there and more counters are manned.
3 days in BKK passed too quickly. BKK really defines the word CHEAP. 400 Baht (Including tips) to the airport by taxi is cheap!

Getting to the SKL Lounge
Finding the lounge in BKK is no easy feat. Apart from the excellent signs to the Royal Silk Lounges, signages to the other CIP lounges are horrible. Just head towards Concourse C to get to the SKL.

Thanks for an interesting report. Smile KrisFlyer Gold lounge in SIN certainly a huge improvement on SATS place.. And BKK SKL seems excellent.
SATS is still a horrible place even after the upgrade. The SKL in T2 is also rather tired looking. Haven't used it since T3 opened. The BKK SKL looks similar to the KFGL in T3 and the one in ADL too.

The new BKK airport is'nt a sight. Didn't bother to take any pics too.
Lightings used were the glaring white ones which can make it very dull.
Surprised that the ceilings were left in bare concreate too.
Think it was rush job to open the airport.

The dessert looks like a Thai sweet. Looks familiar like the ones on TG ex-BKK also.

You have Y menus from BKK turnaround flights in 2006? The only BKK flights that still offer menus are those originating or terminating in Japan.
There were no menus on my last BKK-SIN flight in Y...that was 2005. IIRC, HAN and MNL still offer menus as these are flights that are above 2 hours....guess I was wrong to say menus are no longer distributed on all turnaround southeast asian flights.

Thanks for the report and especially for the nice pics of the new SKL at BKK. It looks pretty decent, and the food looks good too - is that nasi lemak? Some SKL are not open to Star Gold members, I assume this is? If so, it'd make a nice alternative to the Royal Silk lounges, I'd go there for the nasi lemak alone!

I just went through your LX TR. Will give LX a try in Dec. Found a J/Y package that's cheaper than SQ Y.
BKK looks more tired than KUL even though it's newer.

Yup! It's Nasi Lemak, not sure if they serve it everyday though. It's one of the better lounge meals I had so far. The food selection in the Royal Silk lounges are sub par and they are normally very crowded.
Afaik, only the KLIA SKL, T2 SKL and T3 SKL are not open to *A Gold members but there's always the TG lounge in KLIA and the KF Gold lounge in T3.
